MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) in Hong Kong has awarded Robel Bahnbaumaschinen GmbH a contract to supply for the first time a ROMIS mobile maintenance train for operation on the Tuen Ma Line and East Rail Line. With this investment, MTR follows its aim to strengthen operational safety and optimize on limited track possession by fully utilizing non-traffic hours working windows.
The two-part train will consist of a store wagon and a work unit with an open floor structure that allows workers direct access to the track in a fully protected environment. When on site, it supplies instant site lighting and power for plant and the sidewalls can be moved out to expand the working area. Second part is the integrated store unit that carries the workers as well as housing all material and plant for the planned work. Both wagons are linked by an internal crane. The system is designed to be hauled with a separate locomotive from the depot to the worksite. When on site the train has its own generator for low speed movements, all controlled from an operating panel within the work unit.
